Top Contenders

Three American-bred horses and one foreign entrant are considered the top contenders for the 150th Kentucky Derby.

• Epicenter - Pro: Won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in 2022. Con: Has not raced since February.
• Forte - Pro: Won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in 2022. Con: Has not won a race on dirt.
• Goldilocks - Pro: Won the Miss Preakness Stakes in 2023. Con: Has never run in a race longer than 1 1/16 miles.
• Practical Joke - Pro: Won the Wood Memorial Stakes in 2022. Con: Has not run since June.
